A tragic incident from Puri has raised serious concerns about relationship disputes and legal response. A man died by suicide after alleging betrayal and harassment linked to a live-in relationship.
The deceased, Sudhanshu Bhusan Behera, reportedly met a woman through a matrimonial website. Their relationship soon developed into a live-in arrangement with plans to get married.
According to reports, the woman later refused to marry him. He alleged that she had taken around Rs. 8 lakh and did not return the amount after backing out of the relationship.
Feeling cheated, Sudhanshu Bhusan Behera approached the police multiple times. However, reports suggest that no prompt action was taken on his complaints.
Meanwhile, the woman filed cases at Pipili Police Station and Bhubaneswar Mahila Police Station. She accused him of rape and harassment.
Acting on her allegations, police initiated action and reached his residence to arrest him. During this process, he was found dead by suicide on March 19, 2026.
The incident has sparked debate about the handling of such cases. While allegations of serious offences must be addressed, concerns are being raised about delays in responding to complaints from both sides.
Observers say that balanced and timely investigation is essential in sensitive disputes. Proper handling could help ensure fairness and prevent such tragic outcomes.
The case highlights the need for careful legal processes. It also underlines the importance of addressing emotional and financial conflicts before they escalate further.
