A young software engineer took a tragic step after worrying about her mother being left alone if she got married. With these thoughts, she jumped into Hussain Sagar lake and died by suicide, shocking many people.
Vijayalakshmi, originally from Bhainsa in Adilabad, was living with her mother in Motinagar, Kukatpally. After her father’s death, she became the sole caregiver and took responsibility for her unwell mother.
Her relatives had started searching for marriage proposals. However, Vijayalakshmi insisted that her mother must live with her after marriage, which caused several alliances to fail. This situation made her increasingly anxious and emotionally disturbed.
Relatives said she was deeply worried about her mother’s future and could not cope with the pressure. These fears reportedly pushed her towards taking the extreme decision.
During the investigation, police found that Vijayalakshmi had searched online for ways to commit suicide. On the night of January 31, she hired a Rapido bike and got down near the Annamayya Statue.
Later, when no one was around, she jumped into Hussain Sagar lake. Her family searched for her and filed a police complaint. The body was later recovered and identified with the help of relatives.
Vijayalakshmi was only 26 years old. The incident highlights the need for young people to seek professional counselling or helpline support instead of suffering alone or taking irreversible steps.
