In Tollywood, predicting whether a film will become a hit or a flop is always an unpredictable gamble. Even big combinations and highly promising projects can fail at the box office. But sometimes, the signs of a film’s failure are visible during the shooting itself.
Interestingly, the people working on a film can often sense its fate much before the audience watches it. They see the script, witness the changes made during production and understand how the film is shaping up.
For a recent film, the hero himself knew that things were not going well. He predicted its failure almost from the beginning. When the script was being written on the sets, he felt that the film was heading for a flop. Later, repeated reshoots increased the number of working days, making him even more certain that the film would turn into a disaster.
And that is exactly what happened. The film ended up becoming an embarrassing disaster at the box office.
While producers and makers often remain hopeful until the release, people closely involved in production can spot problems much earlier. A weak script, repeated changes, reshoots and delays can give a clear picture of how things are going.
Interestingly, despite knowing that the film was a lost cause during the shoot itself, the hero continued promoting it. After all, he had to do his part and bring at least some audience to theatres in the hope of reducing the losses.
Of course, production troubles do not always mean a film will fail. Some movies overcome problems and become hits. But in this case, the hero’s early prediction turned out to be right.
Sometimes, the first box-office verdict is already written on the sets!
