A disturbing incident has been reported from Gayatri College of Science and Management in Srikakulam. A first year degree student allegedly morphed the photo of a girl student and used it to blackmail her.
The victim reportedly informed her parents about the issue. Her family then approached the college management and lodged a complaint.
After reviewing the complaint, the college management took disciplinary action. The accused student and a few others suspected of assisting him were issued transfer certificates.
The incident created anxiety among other girl students on campus. Reports suggested that there might be more morphed images, which increased concern among students and parents.
Authorities say that if the case expands, the matter could involve a formal police investigation.
In such situations, police may seize the accused student’s phone, laptop, and other digital devices for examination.
Cyber experts can analyse these devices and even recover deleted data if necessary.
If the images were shared online or circulated among others, investigators may try to trace the recipients and request removal of the content.
Law enforcement agencies can also ask social media platforms to remove such images to prevent further circulation.
Creating or sharing morphed images without consent is considered a serious cyber crime.
If the allegations are proven, the accused could face charges under cyber laws and criminal law provisions.
Such offences may result in arrest, fines, or imprisonment depending on the severity of the case.
Officials say the main priority in such cases is to stop the spread of the images and protect the dignity and privacy of the victim.
