When traffic ground to a halt on Kakinada Canal Road, relief did not come from sirens or signals. It came from the calm leadership of woman constable Jaya.”
A lorry breakdown near a railway gate caused a massive traffic jam at Samarlakota, bringing vehicles to a standstill for nearly five kilometres. The congestion lasted for about an hour, leaving commuters stranded and anxious.
Among those trapped were two 108 ambulance services transporting patients to a hospital in Kakinada. The situation turned critical when a full-term pregnant woman suffering from labour pains, who was being rushed in a private vehicle, was also stuck with no way forward.
As panic grew and vehicles refused to move, woman constable Jaya, who was traveling to Rangampeta on official duty along with her infant, stepped in. Despite carrying her child and heading for duty, she did not wait for instructions or additional support.
Jaya spoke to drivers, coordinated movement, and personally regulated traffic to create space for emergency vehicles. Her calm presence and quick action helped ease the jam and allowed relief to reach those who needed it most.
Soon after, senior police officials arrived and traffic slowly returned to normal. But for many who witnessed the incident, it was Jaya’s response that stood out.
In a moment filled with fear and uncertainty, one woman constable showed how responsibility, compassion, and courage can make all the difference.
