Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has praised Shivam Dube for his calm yet decisive role in the quarter-final match between India and the West Indies. Bumrah described Dube’s short stay at the crease as the true turning point of the game.
Speaking after the match, Bumrah pointed to the four balls faced by Dube as the most impactful moment. He said that the two fours may not stand out on paper, but they played a crucial role in easing pressure during the closing stages.
In his words, Bumrah stated that while the boundaries may go unnoticed in statistics, those who understand cricket would realise how they helped control the situation heading into the final over.
Dube walked in to bat when India were five wickets down in the 18th over. The match was at a critical stage, with both teams locked in a tense battle and momentum hanging in the balance.
During his brief stay, Dube struck two boundaries off the four deliveries he faced. Those shots shifted the momentum and ensured India entered the final over in a far more comfortable position.
Though Shivam Dube’s contribution was limited in numbers, it played a psychological role. It gave Sanju the confidence to back himself and play the winning shots.
As a result, Team India sealed the victory and confirmed their place in the semi-finals. The moment highlighted how small contributions can have a major impact in pressure situations.
However, the match also exposed inconsistencies in the batting lineup. Several batters failed to meet the standards they had set earlier in the tournament.
Fans are now hoping the entire squad finds peak form as the Men in Blue prepare to face England on 5th March 2026.
