Is the Indian Test Cricket Team Really Underperforming?
Despite recent criticisms, India’s Test team remains one of the strongest in world cricket. Although some recent losses have sparked debate, a closer look at the numbers reveals consistent dominance, especially against major rivals like England and Australia.
India has remained undefeated in Test series against England for nearly seven years. This consistent record reflects not only the depth of the team but also their ability to bounce back under pressure, especially in home conditions where they’ve regularly outplayed visiting sides.
When Australia and England travel to India, they often find themselves struggling against India’s formidable lineup. Interestingly, England hasn’t won a single series against Australia in the last seven years either—yet the spotlight of criticism always falls heavier on India.
This bias becomes more evident when Team India is judged harshly for minor flaws during overseas tours, while other top-tier teams avoid similar scrutiny. It’s a pattern that reflects perception more than performance.
While T20 leagues like the IPL generate massive revenue for the BCCI, it’s important to recognize that India has built a solid foundation across all formats. Their Test team has the resilience and talent to challenge any opponent, at home or abroad.
Rather than questioning their legacy over a few setbacks, fans and critics alike should appreciate the strength, consistency, and evolution of the Indian Test cricket team.
Isn’t it incredible that while India is expected to compete and win in Australia and England, it’s absolutely par for the course for them to tour India and get hammered.

India have lost only one series to Australia in the last 11 years and unbeaten vs England in the last 7 years. It’s a ridiculous record when you think about it.
