The opening test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy has blown hot and cold for India with the side posting up a paltry total of 150 with the bat and then coming out all guns blazing with the ball in hand.
However, the discussion for the time being is about one man who has impressed us the most in the game and it is none other than Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Right from the time he stepped on the crease, Nitish looked like he belonged here and had no first game blues whatsoever. He was middling the ball almost all the time and was confident enough to play reverse sweeps against Nathan Lyon on a turning Perth pitch.
Nitish topped the scorecard with a 41-run knock and this is a supremely impressive debut for a gun youngster who looks like he is here to stay. He was composed with his shot making and looked most comfortable at the crease.

While Nitish‘s playmaking abilities in the limited overs format was never to be questioned, the way he started off in the test match is as refined as it can get.
More than the volume of the runs that were scored, it was the manner in which Nitish got them which has impressed us the most. He looks like a compact player for India in the middle order. If he can add any more value with the ball in hand, then it is safe to say that India has found an absolute gem in the form of this fun youngster.
