Prithvi Shaw and Akriti Agarwal have called off their engagement around six months after announcing it.
Akriti confirmed through an Instagram post on Today, saying that the two had mutually decided to part ways because their goals and circumstances for the future were different.
Akriti, a social media creator and actress, shared a statement with the post. She said that, despite the love and care they have for each other, they had accepted that their paths were not meant to be together.
She also mentioned their responsibilities and the circumstances they are currently facing before saying that they had decided to go their separate ways.
Akriti wished Shaw the best, peace and happiness as they move forward separately.
She did not reveal any further details about what led to their decision. Instead, she asked people to respect their privacy and refrain from speculation or assumptions about the reasons behind their separation.
Shaw and Akriti had announced their engagement on March 8, 2026, with the cricketer sharing pictures from the ceremony on social media, including photographs of the couple with their engagement rings. Shaw had also described Akriti as his “perfect innings” in the post.
The couple had faced breakup rumours earlier in July after Akriti shared a cryptic post on social media.
The post led to speculation about Shaw, but Akriti later clarified that she had not mentioned her fiancé or said that their engagement had ended. She said at the time that they were still engaged and happy together.
The latest post, however, confirms that the two have now decided to end their engagement. Shaw has not made a separate public statement so far.
The development adds another major change to a period in which Shaw has already seen his cricket career take a very different path from the early days of his career.
He became a major name in Indian cricket as a teenager after scoring 546 off 330 balls in a Harris Shield match.
He went on to captain India to the 2018 Under-19 World Cup title and made a strong start to his international career by scoring 134 on his Test debut against the West Indies.
At that stage, Shaw was widely seen as one of India’s biggest young batting talents.
However, his career at the international level did not continue in the same way. Shaw last played for India in July 2021 and later lost his place in the national setup.
There have been signs of a comeback since then. Shaw returned to form with a second fastest Ranji Trophy Elite double century against Chandigarh and was later picked by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2026.
In March, he also spoke about his aim of returning to the India team and said he was putting in more effort than before to achieve it.
From scoring huge runs as a teenager and making a century on his Test debut to losing his place in the India team and now going through a major change in his personal life, Shaw’s journey has taken a very different turn from what was expected early in his career.
