India beat England by 336 runs at Edgbaston and while the team was basking in the glory, Sourav Ganguly had something else on his mind.
The former captain didn’t mince words when he spoke about how Indian cricket is perceived by fans and media.
“Everyone talks about Bumrah and Kohli. But there’s so much more. India has immense talent,” Ganguly said. He went on to praise Akash Deep, Siraj, Shubman and Yashasvi as the real future.
With Kohli retired and watching from the sidelines, it was Akash Deep who stole the show.
The pacer took 10 wickets in the match 4 in the first innings and 6 in the second and broke England’s back.
Siraj too had a sharp performance with 6 wickets in the first innings. Together they never gave England a chance to settle.
On the batting front, captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a double century and then a quick 161.
The way he paced his innings showed he’s not just a stand-in captain he’s the next big thing.
Ganguly’s message was clear stop talking only about the big stars. With Virat retired and Bumrah one of the few seniors left, it’s time to give space and respect to the new names.
Akash Deep didn’t just bowl well he made a statement. Shubman didn’t just score runs he carried the team. These players aren’t just filling gaps; they’re building a new identity for Indian cricket.
For years every match preview and fan chat revolved around Kohli, Rohit and Bumrah.
But the way India won at Edgbaston showed something deeper this team doesn’t rely on just one or two players anymore.
From Jaiswal’s fearless hitting to Akash Deep’s discipline and Shubman’s calm leadership, there’s a new wave rising. Ganguly knows it and he wants fans to see it too.
With Virat Kohli stepping away from the game many feared a leadership and performance gap. But if this Edgbaston win proved anything it’s this: India is in safe hands.
The names may be new but the fire is the same. As Ganguly said India’s got talent. We just need to start noticing.
