Today’s IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings could either be another dead rubber game or a miraculous one.
For starters, both RCB and Punjab are on 8 points patch and even if either of the teams win all their remaining three games, they would get to 14 points. Unless a miracle happens, progressing to the playoffs with 14 points is not likely.
Essentially, the loser of today’s game will be eliminated from the tournament immediately. The winner will fight for another day.
So speaking of bare facts, the winner of the RCB vs Punjab game today will eliminate one team from the tournament and give a miracle ticket to another team to fight for another day.
Even in Punjab or RCB wins the game, they will have to win the remaining two games and pray that the other teams in qualification race like CSK, LSG and SRH lose at a staggering rate.
As of now, the only eliminated team in the tournament is Mumbai Indians which is on a disastrous run. With today’s game, either RCB or Punjab will join Mumbai on this disastrous run.
