Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may be doing more than just scoring runs at 15. Former India batter Robin Uthappa believes the youngster’s batting technique could change how future T20 batters approach the game.
Robin Uthappa pointed out that Sooryavanshi stays more on the back foot instead of going forward early.
He compared the approach with MS Dhoni, who often waited on the back foot and used the bowler’s pace to attack.
According to Uthappa, Sooryavanshi’s position outside the off stump also gives him more options against good length balls, short deliveries and bouncers.
The former batter believes bowlers now have to be very accurate with yorkers against Sooryavanshi because mistakes in length can quickly turn into boundaries.
What we are going to see because of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a whole change in batting technique, Uthappa said.
The 15 year old showed why Uthappa is so impressed during IPL 2026, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 for Rajasthan Royals.
He later made his India debut and struggled initially, but bounced back strongly against Zimbabwe.
Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs in three T20Is against Zimbabwe, including a best of 81, and was named Player of the Series.
But the bigger question is whether Sooryavanshi’s technique really becomes the next trend in T20 cricket.
