Dhanush’s fourth directorial film Idli Kadai released in theatres today and opened to mixed reviews. While some viewers appreciated parts of it, many felt let down and expressed disappointment online.
After Raayan and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, expectations were high. The team promoted Idli Kadai heavily across Tamil Nadu, but early responses suggest the film has not lived up to the hype.
Viewers say the film follows an old formula. Many believe Dhanush wasted a sensitive story with an average execution. The first half managed to hold some emotional weight, but the second half was criticised for losing focus and drifting from the core plot.
Following the release, social media users began ranking Dhanush’s directorial films. His debut Power Paandi is still regarded as his best work. Next in line is Raayan, while Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam has now been pushed up in comparison to Idli Kadai.
With these rankings, audiences feel Power Paandi was a one-time success. They believe Dhanush’s later films have not met expectations and that his directorial journey needs more maturity and refinement.
