Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut film as an actor, which is DC directed by Arun Matheswaran was released in theatres on August 7th and has received super positive responses from audiences and critics alike.
Many viewers, after watching the film, have stated that DC is one of the best action films released in Kollywood in recent times and that director Lokesh Kanagaraj has made an impactful debut as an actor.
However, despite the overwhelmingly positive responses, DC’s box office performance looks average. According to reports, on Day 1, DC collected around 6.25 crores worldwide, with Tamil Nadu collections around 2 crores and the Telugu states around 1.5 crores.
Meanwhile, on Day 2, DC had a decent jump, collecting around 11 crores worldwide, with the Tamil Nadu region alone accounting for around 2.4 crores.
Following the average performance of DC, many trade experts suggest that even though the film was solid, family audiences are refusing to watch it in theatres because of the gory action sequences and its A rating certificate.
Also, they note that especially since DC is true to its genre with intense and raw action sequences, the film didn’t connect well with B and C centres. Therefore, they claim that despite the super positive responses, DC will not be able to post record-breaking numbers.
Nevertheless, the film is picking up in all centres and reports suggest that the Day 3 advance booking in Kerala is super solid. Hence, it remains to be seen how DC will perform at the box office in the following days and whether it crosses the 100 crore mark in its final run, making Lokesh Kanagaraj the second actor to achieve a 100-crore grosser with a debut film, after Pradeep Ranganathan.
