R Madhavan‘s G. D. N directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, which is a biographical film based on G. D. Naidu, is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on August 7th.
With only a few days left until the release, pre-bookings for the film have now started in many centres across Tamil Nadu. According to reports, the pre-bookings are very dull and not even a single ticket has been sold so far.
Since Madhavan is returning to Kollywood with G. D. N and his performance in the pan-Indian blockbuster Dhurandhar franchise received a lot of appreciation, many people expected that G. D. N would have a decent opening. But unfortunately, the reality is opposite to these expectations.
In response to the dull bookings for G. D. N, many trade experts are suggesting that poor promotion is the major reason. They claim that many people are not even aware of the release of this film and that the makers have failed to create a buzz. They note that G. D. N was made on a massive budget and if this trend continues, it will result in a huge loss for the makers.
Other than the trailer, which was released a few weeks ago, no other promotional content for this film has worked and even the trailer has only reached A-centre audiences.
With the poor pre-release buzz and hype, the success of G. D. N now solely relies on positive word of mouth. It remains to be seen whether G. D. N will emerge as a surprise blockbuster and help Madhavan maintain his success streak upon its release on August 7th.
