After the controversy around The Kerala Story, the makers have returned with a sequel, and its trailer has triggered strong reactions. While some viewers are keen to watch it, others see it as propaganda. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also reacted sharply.
Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the government has taken serious note of The Kerala Story 2 being released. He alleged that the film targets Kerala, insults its secular traditions, and is designed to spread hatred against the state and its social fabric.
According to him, the first part contained lies, hatred, and anti Kerala propaganda driven by communal motives. He claimed such narratives stem from fear of Kerala’s model of brotherhood, coexistence, and secular values that stand apart from divisive politics.
He further alleged that agents of the Sangh Parivar are spreading false propaganda. He said even marriages by mutual consent are being portrayed as forced conversions and communal acts to create fear and mistrust among communities.
The Chief Minister described Kerala as a state free from communal riots where people of all religions live with mutual respect. He accused such forces of trying to poison peace and questioned how divisive films are allowed, while another film was reportedly blocked for using the word “Beef” in its title.
Public voices have also joined the debate. Some pointed out that Jana Nayagan was reportedly denied certification over concerns of communal harmony, while The Kerala Story and its sequel allegedly faced fewer hurdles despite similar objections.
Critics have called this selective scrutiny hypocritical. They argue that films critical of the ruling establishment face obstacles, while content they describe as propaganda is promoted more easily, raising questions about fairness and freedom of expression.
India is a gone case, man. A film like #Jananayagan is being held from release just because it has something against the ruling party, while fabricated shits like #TheKeralaStory is getting a sequel without any issues. Fuck CBFC.

Jana Nayagan was denied a censor certificate because it had “scenes that would affect communal harmony”, but Kerala Story and Kerala Story 2 are the kind of films that promote and uphold communal harmony? Wtf CBFC?
