2024 so far hasn’t had any blockbuster hits from top actors in Kollywood, and movies such as Maharaja and Aranmanai-4 were the only considerable hits of this year. In this scenario, Dhanush’s 50th film, Raayan, is expected to be released on July 26th in theatres.
The second half of 2024 is loaded with the release of back-to-back biggies from Kollywood, starting with Indian 2. Indian 2, which was released yesterday, was a flop content-wise, although it had the highest opening of this year in Kollywood.
After Indian 2, all eyes are now on Dhanush’s Raayan, as it is one of the most expected movies from audiences. Raayan is the 50th film for Dhanush, and he himself has directed this movie. Recently, the censorship for this movie was done, and it got an A certificate. This A Certificate was doing a big promotion for this film as Tamil audiences and critics were praising Dhanush’s gut decision without any compromise for his milestone 50th film. There is a belief that movies with A’ certificates won’t pull audiences to theatres, although the content clicks, as the family audiences won’t be able to watch the family with their children, and it also won’t have the expected box office collections in Kollywood.
So far this year, Ayalaan, starring Sivakarthikeyan, and Dhanush’s Captain Miller clashed in Pongal. These two movies were the biggest releases of Kollywood till Indian 2. But all three movies, including Indian 2, don’t satisfy the audience’s expectations. So with the huge expectation, if Raayan’s content clicks and succeeds in the box office, it gives a big boost and will set the best market for the upcoming biggies.
