A passenger recently shared her upsetting experience with American Airlines while travelling from Newark to Milwaukee. What was supposed to be a trip for her sister’s wedding turned into a stressful 24-hour ordeal.
Flight Cancellations and No Support
Her Thursday evening flight was cancelled due to bad weather, followed by several operational cancellations and failed rebookings. Even after paying for hotel stays, meals, and a $120 Uber from Newark to LaGuardia, she received no support from the airline.
Seat Promised but Not Delivered
Adding to her frustration, she didn’t get the seat she was assured. Despite repeated attempts to rebook, nothing worked in her favour.
Delays Continue and More Cancellations
After a full day of delays, she finally managed to get a ticket with United Airlines. But the connecting American Airlines flight from Chicago to Milwaukee was cancelled again, leaving her stranded overnight.
Extra Expenses and Missed Family Moments
She had to spend more on travel and rent a car to reach Milwaukee, missing important wedding events in the process. The incident left her deeply disappointed with the airline’s handling of the situation.
Airline’s Response Sparks More Anger
Even after filing a complaint with the Department of Transportation (DOT), American Airlines stated that it was not responsible for refunding her out-of-pocket costs. This response seems to go against the DOT’s compensation rules for controllable cancellations, raising serious concerns about the airline’s accountability.
