Eligible H1B Holders Struggle as Dropbox Ends

Dropbox H1B renewal

The Dropbox interview waiver program for H1B renewals in India is set to end unexpectedly on September 2, causing a surge of concern among Indian professionals working in the U.S. Many who expected to be eligible for Dropbox until 2025 are now scrambling to adjust their plans before time runs out.

Securing appointment slots has become a serious challenge. The U.S. visa scheduling portal continues to display the Dropbox option, but without offering a clear path to book direct interviews. As the deadline approaches, this confusion is leaving many visa holders in limbo and struggling to move forward confidently.

One applicant told Mirchi News about their workaround. After failing to get a Dropbox slot, they hit “Close and Start New Application,” which opened up both VAC and interview appointments. However, the available dates were in two separate cities, only five days apart, making coordination a logistical challenge.

Switching from Dropbox to interviews adds complexity. Applicants now need to book both a VAC biometric appointment and a consular interview. These may not be in the same city, requiring extra travel at short notice. Fortunately, after the interview, passports can still be returned by mail.

With the end of Dropbox looming, Indian H1B holders are being urged to act fast, consider flexible travel plans, and prepare for last-minute adjustments. What was once a predictable renewal path has become a stressful race against time and logistics.
