
Another student’s US dream came to a halt at the F1 visa interview. The rejection came swiftly as the applicant revealed his family’s story and his father’s misstep to get his son a green card.
The applicant had everything going his way— a well-ranked university, solid documents, and clear academic goals. But the moment the student revealed their father is a US citizen and had filed an I-130 green card petition, the tone shifted. Within minutes, the visa was denied under 214(b) for “not showing strong ties” to the home country.

Visa officers often assume that every visa applicant secretly wants to stay. So if you can’t prove you’ll return home, you’re rejected immediately.
An I-130 is basically a formal declaration that you want to immigrate to the US in the future. Combine that with close family already settled abroad, and the officer doesn’t need much more to say no.

Now, in his father’s eagerness to get a green card for his son, he is not going to even get a visa. While the petition might take years to be processed, it has hindered any chances that the F-1 aspirant had.
