Preparing for months, gathering every document, working on your answers—nothing is enough for an F-1 student visa interview, when it all depends on how the visa officer is feeling.
Lately, an increasing number of people are reporting rejections during visa interviews without any explanation. Another aspiring student who gave his interview at the US consulate in Chennai recently took to social media to share his story.
An economics graduate from Delhi University with an 8 CGPA, he was headed to Boston University for his master’s. The visa officer asked just a few questions, even asked for biometrics with fingerprints, and then, without any warning, rejected their visa under 214 (b).
Now the student is plagued with turmoil, wondering what went wrong. Maybe the answer about Boston wasn’t personal enough. Maybe it sounded rehearsed.
However, the people online feel these cases are just messed up. A graduate from DU is no joke, while people who are far less qualified are crossing over. This raises serious concerns over the flawed system.
Others pointed out the harsh truth that the visa interview is less about your course and more about proving you’ll come back. The system apparently assumes every applicant wants to immigrate, putting the entire burden on the student to convince them otherwise in under 2 minutes.
F-1 visa interview isn’t about merit. It relies more on a visa officer’s mood and bias.
