An international student on an F-1 visa is facing uncertainty after being locked out of their biometrics appointment system. The issue arose after the student exhausted the allowed number of reschedule attempts.
As per federal guidelines, biometrics appointments can be rescheduled only twice. Once this limit is reached, the online portal automatically blocks any further changes.
In most cases, applicants are advised to contact the USCIS Contact Center for assistance. However, appointments that have already been rescheduled twice are usually not eligible for further modification.
The student was forced to reschedule the first appointment due to unavoidable circumstances. During the second attempt, they accidentally selected a March date instead of the required February slot.
Because of this error, the student is now unable to choose the correct date. They are expected to attend the March appointment, which could significantly delay the processing of their case.
Failing to attend the scheduled appointment can have serious consequences. Missing a biometrics appointment may be treated as abandonment and could lead to denial of benefits available to F-1 students.
Experts suggest that the student can still try contacting the USCIS Contact Center. They must clearly explain the reasons behind both rescheduling attempts.
USCIS operators generally require a valid “good cause” explanation for additional changes. Acceptable reasons may include medical emergencies or major life events.
Despite this, there is no assurance that a third reschedule will be approved. The situation remains uncertain, leaving the student with limited options.
