Green Cards Vanish in Mail, USCIS Offers No Help

Green Cards Vanish in Mail

One would think a document as important as a Green Card would be handled with care. But for many immigrants in the US, it’s becoming just another item to be lost in the mail, and no one seems to care.

A social media post recently exploded with comments after one user revealed how USPS (US Postal Service) allegedly lost their newly issued Green Card. It was last marked “in transit” and then vanished.

After weeks of chasing USPS, they finally admitted defeat, but USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) still told the applicant to wait 90 days or pay $540 to get a replacement.

The post was filled with outraged applicants who shared similarly disturbing experiences. Cards going missing, no delivery confirmation, and no accountability were some of the big recurring issues among netizens.

Despite it being USPS’s fault, USCIS often demands full replacement fees, putting immigrants in a financial and legal bind.

There’s no signature required on delivery, no tracking once it’s out of the facility, and no real solution if it disappears. For immigrants, that means months of stress and uncertainty over an official document that can decide their future.

One agency loses your identity, another makes you pay for it, and nobody takes responsibility.

For now, the users suggest keeping records, filing I‑90 under the right category, and demanding a temporary ADIT stamp if your GC goes missing.
