H-1B Panic: Even Family Emergencies Can Cost Visa

A wave of panic is hitting Indian techies after recent reports of H-1B visa cancellations for overstaying in India. And now they are even reconsidering family emergencies.

One Reddit user, who has been working remotely from India for 1.5 months to care for a sick parent, is now living in fear. He has company approval, immigration lawyer clearance, and a valid visa stamp; yet, after hearing how others with similar documents were denied entry and had their visas canceled, he’s freaking out.

“Will they let me in?” His simple question echoed the sentiments of many working remotely from their home countries.

This follows the news of multiple H-1B holders recently getting stopped at Abu Dhabi’s preclearance and sent back. There was no criminal record, no status issues, just extended time in India seen by CBP (Customs and Border Protection) as “abandoning employment.”

Now, even taking care of family with employer consent feels like a trap. And nobody has a solid answer that can calm the worrying H-1Bs. The new regime under Trump has thrown everything for a toss with its strict curbs.
