An Indian-origin traveler in the US faced cruel treatment at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina, USA. The person claims that the airline denied them boarding during a family emergency.
The man rushed to RDU to catch the fastest flight to Mumbai via Paris after learning of his father-in-law’s sudden death in India. But Air France staff allegedly told him the flight was full and flatly refused to check him in, not even on standby.
Despite being a Delta Gold member, his pleas fell on deaf ears. He wasn’t offered rebooking, wasn’t guided on alternatives, and wasn’t even informed about a refund until he brought it up.
Had someone helped him look for options, he could have flown out of Washington DC, and possibly made it in time for the final rites. But now, he and his family will miss the last goodbye — all because an international airline operating in the US couldn’t be bothered to care.
Air France, a SkyTeam partner with ties to Delta, operating out of an American airport, was totally indifferent to the pleas of the India-bound passenger.
“I don’t even know how this is acceptable, especially from a SkyTeam partner. Delta, you need to do better. This isn’t how you treat people,” the Indian-origin person wrote on social media/
Airlines should not forget basic humanity amidst all the chaos that is already making life hard for immigrants in the US.
