NRI’s Nightmare: Green Card Parents But No H-1B

Green Card Parents But No H-1B

A mechanical engineer of Indian origin shared his horrific experience in the US job market. He is losing out on his dream roles just because of the visa issue, which is a nightmare for many Indians in this economy.

Sharing his story on social media, the 28-year-old was brought to the US as a child on an H4 visa. He grew up in America, studied in its schools, and calls it home.

However, thanks to America’s broken immigration policies, he aged out at 21 and now lives like a ghost. He’s skilled, and educated, but feels unwanted, empty and useless.

Despite a degree in a high-demand field, job rejections keep piling up. Not for lack of talent, but simply because of his visa status.

Startup employers won’t sponsor an H-1B in the current climate. The roles he does land offer way low wages, and now he only has one shot left in 2026 before his STEM OPT runs out.

While his parents have green cards, they fail to find a way for their son to continue living in the country.

He’s getting by on volunteer work, while others with less education and fewer skills live freely, making him more dejected.

He’s now considering desperate options, such as pursuing a PhD, just to stay here or in Canada. Otherwise, he will have to go back to India, even though his whole life is here.

This is the cruel story of the Indians struggling to get an H-1B visa. As the crackdown remains rampant in the US, real talent has become the victim of politics.
