An NRI couple tried to file a fake robbery complaint in Punjab before their own evidence gave them away.
Sahil Singh and Rajinder Kaur, a Punjab-origin couple residing in Australia, claimed armed men robbed them of 39 tola gold near Jaito Bypass in Bhatinda while returning from a wedding. The police launched a serious investigation until a video, provided by the couple themselves, blew their story apart.
SSP Amneet Kondal revealed that the reported “suspicious car” in the footage belonged to a group of volleyball players traveling from Fazilka. They only stopped after seeing a woman and child on the road but backtracked once they found out the couple was having a fight.
It was all fabricated though, there was no robbery, just drama from the NRI family. Their refusal to properly record statements after filing the complaint made police more suspicious and a deeper probe confirmed the fraud.
When confronted, the couple took a complete U-turn. The woman now says she wasn’t even wearing jewelry and they don’t remember what happened because they were partying.
The reason behind this web of lies is still unknown. As the police continue their investigation, more details will be released.
