Denied TSA PreCheck Because of Your Own Fingers?

TSA PreCheck Denied

Recently, a traveler applied for TSA PreCheck but hit a snag—the system just couldn’t read their fingerprints. After making a trip to Staples for fingerprinting, they faced multiple failed attempts and now have to head to the airport to give it another shot. If that doesn’t pan out, they might end up losing the $76 fee.

This isn’t just a one-off situation. A lot of applicants, particularly older adults, find fingerprint scanning to a challenge since fingerprints can fade over time. Many have had to try several times or even visit different locations before finally getting approved.

There’s also been a recent change that’s left some folks scratching their heads—TSA no longer sends out a physical card with the PreCheck number. Instead, travelers get the number via email and need to keep track of it when booking flights.

For a program design to simply travel, the whole process feels unnecessarily complicated. If fading fingerprints are a known issue, it would make sense to have a backup verification method in place.

Travelers are shelling out money for a service that promises convenience. It hardly seems fair to lose money over a technical glitch, and TSA should definitely provide clearer solutions.
