In sad news from Indonesia, 11 people died after a volcano erupted on Sunday. Mount Marapi, known as the Mountain of fire, is one of the most active volcanoes in the country, located in the Western Sumatra.
The eruption led to a 10,000 feet Ash cloud which affected several nearby villages. According to reports, 3 climbers were found alive near the crater while 12 are still missing.
To reduce casualties, climbing routes and trails have been closed. The uneven terrain of the region posed a big challenge for the rescuers who had to take turns to help the injured climbers down the mountain and provide them the medical care needed.
The eruption resulted in a layer of ash in the air which has affected the locals living near the volcano, even though Mount Marapi has a three-kilometer exclusion zone around it.
Indonesia is one of the most prone countries to volcanic eruption with 130 active volcanoes.
