Soori has successfully moved beyond his image as a comedian, delivering a major hit with Maaman, a heartwarming family drama that struck a chord with audiences. The film’s success is remarkable as it faced competition from Santhanam’s much-anticipated Devil’s Double Next Level, yet Maaman emerged as the clear winner, earning an impressive Rs. 40 crores at the box office.
However, fans are now facing disappointment on the OTT front. After running in theatres for more than two months, Maaman has been released on ZEE5 but only in Tamil. Telugu audiences who have been eagerly waiting for a dubbed version have been left without any update, as there has been no announcement regarding its availability in Telugu.
This selective release is surprising, especially since ZEE5’s earlier release of the Tamil blockbuster Kudumbastan featured multiple language options from day one. Many fans are now questioning why Maaman’s Telugu version is missing, sparking discussions on how OTT platforms handle multilingual releases. Regional hits like Maaman could gain more traction with a wider, pan-Indian release strategy.
As digital viewers await clarity on the Telugu release, attention is turning towards the way OTT platforms approach regional cinema. For films as successful as Maaman, offering multiple languages could help reach a broader audience and keep fans across regions equally engaged.
