Pankaj Tripathi has made his debut as a producer with Perfect Family, and the project already feels like a bold creative move. Instead of choosing a safe or conventional launch, he has picked a format that many experienced producers avoid. The show is releasing on YouTube with a pay to watch model.
Tripathi is reportedly frustrated with OTT platforms rejecting projects that are not loud, star heavy or algorithm friendly. By producing this series, he is signalling that he will support stories he believes in, even if it means finding a separate route to reach viewers.
Perfect Family is made with JAR Pictures and Mohit Chhabra. It is an eight episode dramedy about a family that enters therapy after an incident involving their daughter. The cast includes Gulshan Devaiah, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa and Girija Oak.
The show uses emotional honesty and subtle humour instead of dramatic twists. Many producers hesitate to back projects that rely on quiet storytelling, but Tripathi seems confident that such narratives still hold value for viewers.
The YouTube pay model is a risk but also an interesting challenge to OTT gatekeeping. Two episodes are free, and the rest can be watched for fifty nine rupees. Tripathi is testing whether Indian audiences are willing to support creators directly. Whether this becomes a trend or stays a one time experiment, his willingness to take the risk stands out.
