Significant Change to Netflix’s Top 10 Rankings

Netflix Top 10 RankingsThe Netflix top 10 is a big deal for the movie and series enthusiasts and for those who keep a tab on the stats, it’s the favorite part. And as with most Netflix changes, this change made an exception. People are actually keeping a positive approach to this new change that includes the parameters for Netflix’s Top 10 Rankings.

In the new way of calculation, Netflix will ditch the viewing hours’ numbers and rank the shows based on ‘Views’. The number of views is calculated by the number of hours divided by the total runtime.

Along with this, Netflix also brings a drastic change regarding the qualification time for their most popular list. The previous window was for 28 days but now it extends to 91 days. So how’s it gonna change everything?

For the starters, Wednesday beat Stranger Things 4 by miles. It is followed by Dahmer- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Bridgerton.

This new change will help to gain popularity for the series or movies which don’t have a prior fanbase. For instance, Stranger Things already had a strong base and when season 4 came out, the popularity began to skyrocket. That’s not the case with Wednesday because viewers who watched the Addams family movies or series are very less in number. It had a very late bloom but gained way more popularity than Stranger Things 4.

Even movies like RRR, aren’t instantaneous hits but with time they grew on people and later it blew the internet up. It will give room for them to gain popularity.

This idea will also change the parameters of a hit show, maybe this will make Netflix more critical while they cancel the fan favorites. Shows like 1899, Mindhunter, and The OA would have suffered a better fate if this step was taken earlier but on a primary basis, this seems like the right direction.
