Sultan of Delhi: A Familiar Tale of Crime and Ambition

Sultan of Delhi Crime A few weeks ago, we witnessed a recap of the Mumbai underworld scene in the form of “Mumbai Meri Jaan.” Now, Disney+ Hotstar has presented us with another gangster drama, but this one delves into the Delhi underworld during the 1960s. The series is based on a book titled “Sultan of Delhi: Ascension,” written by Arnab Ray.

Directed by Milan Luthria, who has also directed movies such as Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, Baadshaho, and Tadap, has entered the OTT world with this series. The show features actors like Tahir Raj Bhasin, whom we’ve seen in “Chhichhore,” Mouni Roy, Anjum Sharma, Vinay Pathak, and Anupriya Goenka. The series takes us into the life of Arjun Bhaitia, who, after the partition, somehow gets trapped in the world of crime and eventually rises to become the Sultan of Delhi.

The series doesn’t offer anything new in terms of gangster dramas; everything seems like a tried and tested version of a crime movie cliché. Even talented actors like Vinay Pathak don’t have much to work with in this series. Mouni Roy looks beautiful in this otherwise dull series. A ray of hope in the story comes in the form of the last episode, but it comes too late, as Season 1 ends on an uplifting cliffhanger that will be resolved in the next season. You can skip the series unless you are genuinely excited about gangster dramas.
