Nepotism has remained one of Bollywood’s most criticised issues, and the trend shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, it continues to dominate casting decisions and film launches across the industry.
Since 2015, over 30 star kids have been launched with lavish introductions and high-profile marketing campaigns. Some have proven their talent and gained a loyal following, but many remain in the limelight largely due to their last names.
Even when these actors deliver box office failures, they continue to get fresh opportunities. New scripts, big banners, and fresh directors are lined up for them, while others struggle just to land a role.
This cycle of favouring legacy over genuine merit continues to shape who rises and who fades in Bollywood. Outsiders often spend years fighting for visibility, while nepo kids walk into lead roles with little resistance.
Adding to this is the growing concern over financial nepotism. Wealthy children of industrialists and celebrities are also stepping into acting, getting early breaks and multiple chances irrespective of talent or audience response.
This imbalance has not gone unnoticed. Audiences and critics alike have been vocal on social media, calling out the saturation of the industry with star kids who often need several films before gaining acceptance.
At the same time, many talented outsiders are stuck playing supporting roles. They rarely get lead parts, and if they fail once or twice, their careers often stall permanently.
However, nepo kids are rarely judged the same way. Despite repeated flops, they continue to bag lead roles. The debate is reigniting once again as a new batch of star kids prepares for their big debut.
Names like Aryan Khan, Ibrahim Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Shanaya Kapoor are already creating buzz. But many wonder if these launches will follow the same pattern of privilege over performance.
Unless Bollywood begins to reward actual talent and fresh ideas, the future of Indian cinema risks becoming a reflection of surnames and bank accounts instead of creative merit.
