Mrunal-Pooja Hegde vs Rashmika-Kriti? Who Deserved Adult Rating?

Cocktail 2 A certificate sparks debate

Cocktail 2 had already created strong buzz before its release with its lavish locations and stylish visuals featured in the teaser and trailer. However, another aspect that grabbed attention was its censor certification. The film received an Adults Only certificate, which surprised a large section of moviegoers.

Many viewers admitted that they were unaware of the certification before the release. Several people had expected Cocktail 2 to receive a U/A or U/A 16+ certificate because its theme appeared similar to the original film that released in 2012.

After watching the film, audiences began sharing their reactions online. Many expressed surprise over the A certificate and compared it with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. According to them, Varun Dhawan’s film featured more skin show and intimate scenes involving Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, yet it was cleared with a U/A 16+ certificate.

Some viewers argued that the A certificate was not justified for Cocktail 2 because they did not find the film particularly bold. Others questioned the approach of the CBFC and recalled films such as Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat and Coolie, which also received an A certificate despite not featuring extremely mature themes.

At the same time, a section of the audience supported the CBFC’s decision. They pointed out that an A certificate is not awarded only for nudity or intimate scenes. According to them, the themes explored in a film also play an important role in determining the certification.

Several viewers who watched Cocktail 2 said that the film is not a straightforward love story like its predecessor. They claimed that themes such as loyalty tests and relationship conflicts make the story unsuitable for children and family audiences.

A few netizens also floated another theory. They speculated that the A certificate could have been used as a marketing strategy to attract younger audiences. Some even compared it to promotional strategies adopted by films like Animal and Marco.

However, trade experts maintained that the film’s content will ultimately decide its success, regardless of the censor certificate. While the CBFC rating has certainly sparked debate and generated curiosity, it remains to be seen whether the additional buzz translates into strong box office numbers for Cocktail 2.
