From the charming young man singing Pehla Nasha, to the patriotic officer in Sarfarosh, to the strict father in Dangal, Aamir Khan has left a deep impact on both our hearts and the box office.
While his contemporaries were busy romancing and dancing in front of mountains, he was making films that held up a mirror to life.
In several interviews, he has pointed out that he chooses projects that speak to him personally.
And for the past 40 years, his unique, offbeat choices have been widely loved by the audience. Along with his “Mr. Perfectionist” tag, he was often called the star with a conscience.
However, eventually, the cracks began to show, slowly but surely.
In his recently released film Sitaare Zameen Par, those cracks became evident. While his game as a producer, behind the camera, is still worth remembering, his on-screen skills seem to be taking a hit.
His acting in Sitaare Zameen Par felt underwhelming, sprinkled with odd expressions and inconsistent mannerisms. In fact, his supporting cast truly stole the show.
It seemed as though he was still reeling from his character in Laal Singh Chaddha.
The signs were already visible in 2013 with Dhoom 3, where he looked jarring and out of his depth as a circus performer. That film exposed Khan’s limitations as an actor.
And now, those signs are impossible to ignore.
Going forward, Khan has an interesting lineup, including a high-octane cameo in Coolie, headlined by Rajinikanth, an action film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, and a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke to be directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
Fans are seriously hoping Aamir brings something fresh to these roles and doesn’t simply deliver a repetition of what we’ve already seen.
Many fans online have pointed out that at this stage, Aamir’s true strength might lie behind the camera. He has seen so much of the industry, both the highs and lows, and has seasoned himself to thrive in that space.
While he may no longer surprise fans in front of the camera like he once did, there’s a strong belief he won’t disappoint as a producer and storyteller.
By continuing down this path, Aamir Khan could captivate and surprise us in new ways, cementing his place as one of Indian cinema’s most compelling creative forces.
