The recent trending of Housefull 5 has reignited conversations around light-hearted entertainers in Bollywood, with many now hopeful that Ajay Devgn’s upcoming Son of Sardaar 2 could cash in on this wave.

The numbers speak for themselves: Housefull 5 opened at ₹22 crore on Friday, jumped to ₹28 crore on Saturday, and touched ₹29 crore on Sunday. That’s around ₹80 crore over the weekend although such amount is still low for the Housefull franchise.

However, Monday saw a predictable 50% drop with ₹11–12 crore, but even with such an average film, the audience turnout was notable.

The reason behind this is that audiences are currently in the mood for clean, escapist, fun-driven films. They’re tired of being preached to—whether it’s YouTubers breaking down plot holes or Instagram influencers moralizing over logic.

Cinema, at its core, is still about entertainment. And when that entertainment comes wrapped in humour, glamour, and nostalgia, people are ready to pay for it.

This sets the stage for Son of Sardaar 2. The original, released in 2012, was a decent success. It was a remake of SS Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna, and while it wasn’t groundbreaking, it struck a chord with audiences who enjoy masala comedy with a Punjabi flavour.

Now, after 13 years, if the sequel is well-made—offering updated humour, a tight script, and relevant themes—it could easily become a major success.

But expectations must be grounded. Nostalgia can only take a film so far. If Son of Sardaar 2 repeats outdated gags or banks solely on star power, it may face the same fate as other lazy sequels.

The opportunity is there—but only quality will determine if it becomes a blockbuster or just another forgettable follow-up.
