Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino was recently released and yes, the first reactions are out! For the unversed, it is a spiritual successor to his 2007 hit Life in a… Metro. The film again dives deep into the complexities of love, relationships, and emotional baggage across different age groups.
Most of the people loved the modern love stories which included confused teenagers, commitment-phobic millennials, and even emotionally neglected elderly couples.
However, one thing is common: all of them are seen trying to understand love in a world where everything seems complex now.
One major thread in the film involves cheating which is specifically explored through the lens of loneliness, missed opportunities, and emotional disconnection.
But does the film justify it? Not quite. Let’s talk about the Pankaj Tripathi–Konkona Sen Sharma storyline here. Well, definitely it touches raw nerves around midlife temptations and betrayal. You may also like the angle of accountability and growth.
So, does that mean the film is glorifying cheating? We think not. What can be either said is that it kind of humanises the entire relationship angle. For instance, Sara Ali Khan’s character tries to show how flawed people seek validation or escape, but must also face consequences.
The question comes again: Is Bollywood normalising cheating? That depends on your lens. For a few , Metro… In Dino doesn’t endorse infidelity and instead opens a mirror to what happens when love becomes routine, and communication breaks down.
With strong performances and a nostalgic tone, the only thing to be seen is whether it wins the hearts of the audience again like the prequel that was released 18 years ago.
