India A batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again failed to convert a promising start into a big score during the fourth match of the Tri-Nation Series against Sri Lanka A. The young opener showed positive intent from the beginning but could not stay long at the crease.
The 15-year old batter started aggressively after Sri Lanka A won the toss and opted to bowl first. He scored 21 runs from just 14 balls, hitting three fours and a six. However, his innings ended before he could make a bigger impact.
Sooryavanshi was dismissed by Sahan Arachchige while attempting an attacking shot outside the off stump. The ball took the outside edge and was safely caught by Wanuja Sahan at point. It was another innings in which the youngster looked comfortable but failed to capitalise on his start.
A similar situation unfolded during his India A debut against Sri Lanka A on June 9. In that match too, Sooryavanshi began confidently and struck three boundaries early in his innings. Despite looking in good touch, he was dismissed cheaply, with Sahan Arachchige taking a diving catch.
His recent performances have sparked discussions among cricket fans. Many have questioned whether it is too early to consider Sooryavanshi for the Indian team. The youngster undoubtedly possesses immense talent and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket.
However, his outings in the Tri-Nation Series indicate that he may need more time and experience at the India A level. Consistent performances and longer innings could help him prepare for the challenges of international cricket in the future.
