Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar created headlines with its box office numbers and entertaining content. Both the movies emerged as big blockbusters, creating records and setting an example of good cinema that was loved by the audience.
The first movie was recently released in Japan, where it underperformed and raised a lot of questions. Meanwhile, trade experts have now shared their opinion about the same.
Taran Adarsh stated that although Dhurandhar has not done well in Japan, it cannot take away the blockbuster tag of the film. He said that not all films are expected to do well everywhere, recalling the fact that Baahubali also did not work in China. However, it remained a blockbuster for India and the entire world.
Industry tracker from Chennai, Ramesh Bala, said that the lack of cultural connect was the main reason. He said that Japan is not the perfect place for spy thrillers to attract audiences, specifically a movie that is a geopolitical Indian-Pakistani espionage spy thriller. Ramesh said that the same situation is going to happen in India if Japan makes a movie about its rivalry with China.
Netizens reacted differently to the matter, with most of them agreeing with Taran Adarsh and saying that the film’s successful run in Japan is not important. Some stated that the movie was released in December, and the original run of the film determines whether it was good or bad.
On the other hand, a few others reacted by saying that a good performance in all the overseas markets is important because this is the only way through which Indian cinema is going to be known to everyone.
As of now, the underperformance of Dhurandhar in Japan has become a matter of concern for a particular section of the audience. But only time is going to tell if the upcoming big films will witness a release in Japan again, or the makers will avoid releasing the movies there in the future.
