When Game Changer released in January 2025, one thing that created a controversy storm was the infamous Rs. 186 crore Day 1 worldwide collection poster.
The poster was heavily trolled on social media, with many movie lovers and box office followers alleging that the figure was fake and inflated by more than Rs. 100 crores. Ram Charan, his PR team, and producer Dil Raju faced severe backlash. More than a year later, the controversy still appears to be haunting Dil Raju.
In a recent YouTube podcast interview, when asked about the Game Changer collections controversy, Dil Raju candidly spoke about the culture of Day 1 collection posters and admitted that the entire system has become a victim of fan wars.
According to Dil Raju, the trend of comparing opening-day numbers and releasing collection posters began around 2015 when Baahubali released. Over the years, it has become less about actual business and more about satisfying fan expectations on social media.
He explained that producers today face immense pressure from fan groups.
“One hero got this much, so our hero should also get a similar poster,” is the kind of pressure producers receive, he said. Referring to producer Naga Vamsi’s recent comments, Dil Raju agreed that producers know the real collections, but the numbers shown on posters are often influenced by fan expectations and the rivalry between stars.
Interestingly, Dil Raju admitted that things are very different today. With online ticket bookings, advance booking platforms, and real-time box office tracking, actual collections are much easier to estimate. As a result, exaggerated posters are immediately questioned by audiences.
He also observed that if a film genuinely connects with audiences, nobody can stop it from becoming a blockbuster. Likewise, if the content fails, no amount of marketing or inflated collection posters can save it.
Dil Raju also reflected on why Game Changer failed to meet expectations. He admitted that the long production delay worked against the project and that, by the time it released, its theme and storytelling no longer felt fresh.
More than anything else, the interview suggested that Dil Raju has grown tired of the collection-poster wars. The pressure to match rival stars’ posters has often put him in uncomfortable situations.
As the 186-crore Day 1 poster remains one of the controversial posters, judging by Dil Raju’s latest comments, it seems even he would prefer an industry where real collections are celebrated instead of fake figures that eventually invite brutal trolling from all quarters.
Dil Raju garu about #GameChanger fake poster controversy:
Fans pressure వల్ల “ఆ హీరోకి ఇంత వచ్చింది, మా హీరోకి కూడా అంత poster వేయాలి” అనే పరిస్థితి వస్తుంది తప్ప, Naga vamsi చెప్పినట్టు నిజంగా ఎంత వచ్చిందో, poster మీద ఎంత వేశామో మాకే తెలుసు. pic.twitter.com/aOndhC1mzU
