There’s a certain expectation that comes when a project is positioned as an extension of something loved.
The 90s series on ETV Win built that connection; it was simple, rooted, and filled with nostalgic warmth. It wasn’t just content; it was an emotion that clicked with a wide audience. Naturally, when Epic was marketed as a continuation of that world, the expectation was clear: the same soul, the same energy, the same magic.
But the teaser tells a different story.
At first glance, Epic, starring Anand Deverakonda, feels like it belongs to a completely different space. The tone leans more towards a soft, polished romance set in the UK rather than a grounded, feel-good drama that carries the essence of the 90s series.
And that’s where the disconnect begins.
The original series’ charm lay in its relatable, everyday characters, natural humor, and emotional simplicity. It felt lived-in. But Epic, at least from the teaser, looks stylized and distant. The rawness seems replaced with aesthetic appeal.
That doesn’t make it a bad film.
But it does make it feel… different.
And when you market something as a continuation, “different” becomes a risk.
Audiences aren’t just coming for a new story, they’re coming for a familiar feeling.
Right now, that feeling seems missing.
That said, a teaser is only a glimpse. It may not fully represent the film’s emotional core. There’s still a possibility that Epic holds back its real strength for the full narrative.
And that’s where the hope lies.
Because sometimes, films surprise you beyond their promos.
For now, though, the question remains, is Epic truly carrying forward the 90s magic…
or just using its name?
Either way, the curiosity is intact.
And maybe that’s exactly what the makers wanted.
