Prabhas and Hanu Raghavapudi’s much-awaited period drama Fauzi is reportedly eyeing a December 3 theatrical release, with an official announcement expected soon.
While Prabhas fans are excited about finally getting a release date, the development has also sparked an interesting discussion in trade circles.
Some believe Mythri Movie Makers has developed a smart release-date strategy over the last few years.
The banner first announces a prime release date for one of its biggest films, effectively discouraging other producers from targeting the same weekend. Later, if that film isn’t ready, Mythri shifts it to another date and fills the vacant slot with one of its own productions or distribution ventures.
Trade observers point to Peddi as an example, which was initially announced for March 26, leading other producers to stay away from that holiday weekend. Later, when Peddi was postponed, Mythri reportedly moved Ustaad Bhagat Singh into the same slot instead of allowing another banner to capitalize on the date.
Now, some believe the same strategy could be repeated with Fauzi.
The film is said to be targeting December 3, but considering its scale and the work still pending, industry discussions continue over whether it will actually be ready by then.
If production gets delayed, some feel Mythri could postpone Fauzi while retaining control of the release window by bringing another film from its own lineup, such as Vijay Deverakonda’s Rana Baali or another production/distribution venture.
However, this smart approach is being called out on social media by fans and other trade experts.
They argue that when a big banner blocks an attractive release date months in advance and later vacates it, other producers lose the opportunity to properly plan their releases. By the time the date becomes available, many projects are no longer in a position to utilize it, forcing them to settle for less lucrative release dates.
Of course, these are all baseless allegations with no concrete proof. Release schedules often change because of production delays, post-production work, VFX timelines, and market conditions. Still, the timing of previous announcements has led to speculation within industry circles.
Now all eyes are on Fauzi.
If the film releases on December 3 as planned, the discussion will naturally end there. But if it gets postponed and another Mythri project occupies the same release window, the debate over the banner’s alleged “date-juggling” strategy is only likely to receive more backlash.
