M9 News journalist Nishat interacted with director Gunasekhar ahead of the release of his film Euphoria, scheduled to hit screens on February 6th. During the conversation, Gunasekhar shared strong views on cinema, society, and responsibility.
The director said Euphoria is a film that today’s society needs. He described it as hard-hitting and socially relevant. Gunasekhar also stated that his film will be the first to clearly showcase the power of the POCSO Act.
He spoke in detail about how society and parenting have failed collectively. According to him, these failures play a major role in the rise of sexual crimes against minors. He stressed that awareness and accountability are essential.
Gunasekhar rejected the idea that producing his own films is a downgrade. He explained why he stopped working with male stars. At the same time, he said any star he previously worked with would support him if he approached them.
However, the director clarified that he does not believe in seeking favours. He said he prefers to prove himself first before asking for opportunities. Gratitude, according to him, should never be expected from stars.
He also spoke openly about the losses faced by Shaakuntalam. Gunasekhar described it as the biggest jerk of his 30-year career. The discussion also touched upon the ongoing Hiranyakashyap controversy.
