Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay and directed by H. Vinoth, was originally planned for a worldwide release on January 9. However, the film was postponed due to a delay in obtaining its censor certificate. A new release date is yet to be confirmed.
While Vijay fans and the makers were already disappointed by the delay, the situation worsened recently. An HD print of the film reportedly leaked online. This unexpected piracy incident has caused serious concern among the makers and distributors.
There is now strong speculation that Amazon Prime Video, which holds the streaming rights for the film, may reduce the deal amount. Reports suggest the OTT deal was originally valued at around ₹90 crore. It is now being rumoured that the price may be cut to around ₹32 crore.
No official confirmation has been made yet. However, several trade analysts on social media claim the film may become a major loss for the producers. They believe the delay has increased interest costs and the piracy leak has hurt pre-release business.
As this is Vijay’s final film, many expected it to perform on par with Leo. But due to the delay and piracy issues, some trade experts now feel that even achieving half of Leo’s opening numbers could be difficult.
Meanwhile, social media discussions have also raised questions about whether Vijay will compensate KVN Productions for possible losses. Since Vijay has announced his retirement from acting, fans speculate he may return his remuneration, although this remains unconfirmed.
All of these claims are currently based on speculation. There is no official statement regarding a revised OTT deal or financial compensation. It remains to be seen how the film performs at the box office once it finally releases.
