Actor Jr. NTR has approached the Delhi High Court seeking legal protection over his personality rights, which include his name, face, voice, photographs, and any identity-based elements that cannot be used without permission.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora heard the case. NTR’s counsel, Senior Advocate J. Sai Deepak, told the court that several social media accounts and e-commerce platforms were using the actor’s name, AI-generated images, fake endorsements, and other material without authorization.
Following the arguments, the court directed these platforms to treat Jr NTR’s complaint as a formal grievance under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, and take necessary action within three days. A detailed order will be issued on December 22.
The High Court has recently passed similar orders protecting the identities of Nagarjuna, Ajay Devgn, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Sudhir Chaudhary, as courts increasingly deal with AI misuse and unauthorized celebrity branding.
Junior NTR has been facing increased online harassment, including morphed photos, indecent edits, and AI-generated offensive content. Over the past few months, trolling escalated beyond normal trolling, targeting his personal life, family, religion, and public image. NTR and his team initially ignored the posts, considering them part of celebrity life, but the situation became serious. With this legal step, they aim to prevent misuse of his identity and stop harmful content. The action is necessary to protect his personality rights and online dignity.
