It is all but confirmed that Prabhas and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD is hitting the big screens on the 27th of June. Only an official announcement on the date is pending for now. If we set aside the logistical challenges of arriving on this date, here is a look at one good thing and one bad thing about this date.
Firstly, 27 June is a non-holiday weekend. Barring the 4th of July in America, there are no holidays throughout the first-week run of Kalki. Usually, big league films go for holiday weekends to have improved numbers in the opening weekend but Kalki doesn’t have that advantage here. This is one bad thing about the release date.
Coming to the good thing, there is a huge vacuum for big hero films of late, considering the fact that not a single big event Indian film has been released in the last few weeks. In this vacuum, Kalki, which is tipped to be the costliest project in Indian cinema is arriving on big screens and this is going to be a big deal for cinemagoers.
The audience are virtually raring for a big event film and Kalki promises them just that. So all Kalki needs is a decent word of mouth to pull the audience. This is entirely in the hands of Nag Ashwin. Also, the main man, Prabhas must perhaps be more proactive with his promotional stints this time considering what is at stake.
