The Karnataka High Court has granted an interim stay on the state’s ₹200 movie ticket price cap. This comes right before several big releases, giving multiplexes and producers room to breathe.
Multiplex owners and production houses, including the team behind Kantara: Chapter 1, challenged the cap, calling it harmful to high-budget films. The court heard their plea and paused the rule until further orders.
The cap was introduced on 13 September 2025 to make movie-watching more affordable. But with the stay in place, theatres can now price tickets based on demand.
For They Call Him OG, releasing on 25 September, this is a big win. The Pawan Kalyan-starrer has strong buzz in Karnataka. Without the cap, exhibitors can charge premium rates, boosting revenues and helping recover costs quickly.
Advance bookings for OG are already strong. The stay now allows cinemas to fully tap into that momentum.
While Kantara: Chapter 1 was the focus of the petition, the ruling benefits all major releases. The High Court’s interim order opens the door for a better box office run—not just for Kantara, but also for OG and other big films.
