Nayanthara started 2026 on a strong note with Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu. The Chiranjeevi starrer became a major commercial success and gave her 2026 the kind of start any actress would want.
But the films that followed could not keep that momentum going. Patriot, Toxic and Hi all failed to deliver at the box office, leaving Nayanthara with three consecutive setbacks after the January hit.
Toxic did open big and crossed the ₹300 crore mark worldwide, but the final theatrical business was not enough for a film of that scale. Patriot and Hi also failed to make the impact expected from them.
That leaves Nayanthara with a very different picture going into the remaining months of 2026. The year began with a major success, but it now needs another good result to end on a better note.
She still has a few interesting films lined up. Mookuthi Amman 2 is probably the most notable among them, with Nayanthara returning in the central role and Sundar C directing. Mannangatti: Since 1960 and Dear Students are also in the lineup, while Rakkayie remains another film to watch out for.
A successful theatrical run from any of these films would change the tone around her. After three disappointments, Nayanthara doesn’t necessarily need a string of hits. One film connecting strongly with the audience could be enough to give her 2026 a much better finish.
For now, her year is a clear case of a great beginning losing its way. Nayanthara has a few more releases left, and they will decide whether 2026 is remembered for that January blockbuster or for what happened after it.
