In the film industry, credit sharing is often a sensitive issue. When a movie becomes a hit, the hero gets the credit, and when it flops, the director is usually blamed.
When Pushpa 1 became a phenomenon, especially in the North, Sukumar didn’t get any credit or popularity like SS Rajamouli, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, or Prashanth Neel got after Baahubali, Kabir Singh, or KGF.

Allu Arjun took away most of the credit and even the National Awards honored Allu Arjun and not Sukumar.
During the Pushpa 2 release as well, Allu Arjun has become the main attraction, particularly in the North, where he has taken center stage in the film’s promotional campaigns. A very small section of the audience is talking about Sukumar and his skills as a director.

Everyone is seeing it as an Allu Arjun film. Sukumar is one of the rare directors who didn’t get pan-India stardom despite his film becoming a pop culture phenomenon.
While audiences in Telugu states are eagerly waiting for Sukumar’s mark on the film, his recognition in the North remains limited.

If the movie breaks records and emerges as the next 1000-crore film from the Telugu industry, maybe then Sukumar will receive the credit he deserves. It could also happen that Allu Arjun might walk away with all the credit this time as well, taking the lion’s share.
It will be very difficult for any film to generate the same level of hype that Pushpa 2 has generated on a pan-India level again soon. This is the best chance for Sukumar to get elevated as one of the big pan-India directors.
So, let’s hope the film becomes a big hit and Sukumar gets the recognition he genuinely deserves on a pan-India level.
